half of the time, when i get an Alternative Press magazine, i rarely find myself reading it unless something particular catches my eye. most of the time, my eyes are wandering ads, or the portions where there's clothing advertised and gadgets that are too expensive for my broke self to pay for. there's usually a shirt or two that'll catch my eye, and they almost always happen to be Glamour Kills Clothing shirts.
fun colors, cute designs, big bands to back them up, not to mention the incredible amount of publicity in magazines like AP. not to mention, the prices are decent enough for me to shop there.
GKC is available in a few Zumiez stores. These exact locations can be found on their myspace page, along with other information as to where to buy their clothing. Like their newly opened store in New York, or their Big Cartel page. They also just dropped a new winter line, equipped with leggings, and more flashy and eye catching shirts.
Awhile ago, I e-mailed some questions to owner and creator Mark Capicotto.
who is the owner(s) of Glamour Kills Clothing and how did it come about?
I am the owner, Mark Capicotto. I started glamour kills my first year of college and later dropped out to pursue it full time. I wanted to offer a bright unique alternative to fashion than a lot of the other trends that were out there.
there are a lot of bands sponsored by you. is there other ways that bands can become sponsored by you?
yes there are a lot of bands :) it is possible for other bands to become sponsored, first we have to really dig their music, second they must be dedicated (not necessarily signed) but touring and doing everything DIY (cause we are DIY) we really dig that.
where do the ideas for GKC designs come from?
haha they normally just pop into my head before bed time. I keep a notepad on my nightstand to write everything down
are there any places, other than online, where kids can order GKC shirts? what is the usual price range?
There are several indie stores around the world that carry GK you can go to www.glamourkills.com to see the full list. We just recently started selling our shirts in select Zumiez stores across the US. Prices range from 18-25 bucks for a tee
was GKC expected to be as successful as it is now?
I don’t think I had any expectations for it, I just hoped people liked what I was designing and would want to wear it and to look now and see people at the mall or on the street wearing gk is just amazing to me
what kind of person do you think would be one to like the designs at Glamour Kills?
I think we def. appeal more to the younger crowd. americas youth in the house!! Woop woop haha umm yeah def. people who are into the alternative end of things whether it be music extreme sports etc
Lately there've been a lot of ads for GKC in magazines like Alternative Press. What's it like to see your designs in a major publication that reaches so many people?
Its pretty awesome and surreal almost to see it, I mean for ap for example I have read scince I was a youngin and now I flip a page and [I'm] like, "woah hey, theres my shirts!"
What advice would you have to give to young designers?
Keep on keeping on. if designing is your passion then find time to do it and dont change yourself or art for anybody
What is personally your favorite shirt that you have designed?
Ahh can I say all of them?! Haha umm id say the electro skull is a personal fav of mine
