I have been waiting for this CD from Dr. Manhattan for a LONG LONG time. All of them, really. This is one of the hardest-working bands as far as I’m concerned and they all do such an amazing job. They were dropped from their label, their booking agent dropped them and they were pretty much screwed. So, they called up an AMAZING man named Casey Bates, who has produced such gems as Fear Before’s last two albums, Portugal. The Man’s album and so many others. Anyways, Casey took these guys in and produced such an awesome album with the help of Saves the Day’s Chris Conley.
Their opens up with “Electraumatized” which is such an AWESOME track, actually, let’s just say that about all of them. There are really no words to explain how excited I was to get this CD on my computer.
The second track, “Texas” has been around for a while, if you’ve been paying attention to the band. They recorded it at Daytrotter Studios a while back, but it is such an awesome song. And if you know Dr. Manhattan, they mumble a bit and such on albums at the end or in the middle of the track and I absolutely LOVE it.
“After All” can so easily be compared to “Tracey’s Buns.” It’s a sweet love song or something like that. The only difference between the two songs are the lyrics and that it’s more of a jam than a love song. Love jam? Yes.
Whaddya got? “Mailman” is probably one of the top two songs everyone that loves Dr. Manhattan has been waiting their precious little butts off for. And if you really want to know the words (I know you do), they can be found on their myspace. This is probably one of the most eccentric songs on the album, as in, “I took some C.M.T. and couldn’t find my contacts for a week.” Hm.. yes. The album name does come from this song, though.
We love Wauconda, that small town that produced these boys, and they give it a shout-out on the song “I’m High.” If anything, this song is all about homesickness and missing ladies. It’s cute and any of us that have been away from home for a long time can probably relate to this song.
I could lay down and cry with this album in my hands. “Cowgirl” is another song that is seriously adorable. I don’t know how they come up with these things, but the robbies that Tracey makes probably have some part of it. This is a song for a lady.
“Misses Stewart” is probably one of the funniest songs I’ve heard in a while. It’s like, white boy rap met the Prince of Bel Air and “Misses Stewart” was born. It’s funny because the chorus goes a little something like this, “we don’t care about how it gets to our mouths as long as it’s in our mouths.” Hmm....
By far the most anticipated track on Jam Dreams was “Biscuits and Groovy.” HELLO, how could you not be stoked on a song involving zombies and jamming out being your duty. Every time they play this live, every one turns into a zombie halfway through the song and eats brains.
LISTEN UP, a 40 second intermission involving glass breaking, yes. You take it from me and I’ll get it back. TRUST ME on this one, it’s awesome.
“Man With a Woman’s Chest” is about a drawing... at least, at first it is. It’s a song you can scream to in your car or maybe it’s just a true jam dream. You can’t stay here, but you don’t have to go home.
If only you have the mouth to see, you’ll like “Hard Time.” Actually, you’ll all have mouths to see with and you’ll like it. I swear to every Butterfinger on the face of the Earth because it’s like Tom Waits took some Adderall and jammed out with these guys, halfway through the song.
This last one (yes, finally, I know, you’re all excited) is a song about “Camping Ground.” Or something like that... Dance away because you bring them here (Sorry Dad, I did not know). But this album is pretty well summed up with this song and you’ll all love it, I swear, my little kiddies.
Overall, I’m going to give this every thumb in the world up, because it deserves it. These guys are so amazing and seeing them come out with another album is so exciting because everyone’s been waiting for it. If you haven’t yet, check them out on tour in the Northeast US or their six-week stint that’s about to be coming up in the next month or so throughout the rest of the country.

this is a terrible review of a great record. stop referencing the album every chance you can.
Thanks for your opinion. I'll remember that for next time. Maybe you should leave a little more constructive criticism so that we can improve our reviews and what people want to hear / see on the site. And if I knew who this was, I'm pretty sure I'd stop referencing drmanhattan if I were you, especially if you're going to talk down on reviews of great albums. Thanks, have a nice day, jerk.
