Cold Summer Clothing : Ricky Mejia and Robert Moreno

Passion is something that is almost essential when it comes to taking a craft and making a success out of it. And passion is what Ricky Mejia and Robert Moreno, co-owners of Cold Summer Clothing, seem to have. "Art has always been a passion of mine since I was little," says Mejia, via a myspace message. So when he got into computer art designing, and teaching himself how to use certain art programs on the computer, clothing design started to become more of an option. As for Moreno, he took his love of music and 'kick ass shirts and clothes' and started to turn it into something that he could go with and make it hopefully successful.

Both loaded with great imagination and a want to pull it off, the two of them got together in their senior year of high school in California to create Cold Summer Clothing, a name that took quite a while to come up with. Though the boys say they try not to specify a crowd for their clothing, their shirts definitely seem to pick up on a hardcore/metal theme. The designs can be likable by many different scenes, however.

who is the creator of Cold Summer Clothing, and where did it originate?
-The creators of Cold Summer Clothing (CSc) are Ricky Mejia & Robert Moreno
-It was started in Redlands/Mentone CA our senior year of high school in '05-'06
-The name was a decision that took a lot longer than expected. we tossed ideas for weeks and finally decided on a name of a song we liked and it just stuck.

where did the idea come from for the designs that can be seen on your clothing?
-Ricky: Well the ideas are inspired by things that we come up with in our heads. We try to make our own unique designs. Things we see on average days. Things that we think are cool and others will like. All the components great designs.
-Robert: imagination. we always try to spit out new unique designs so people can say, " wow, thats a really sick ass shirt." We just kind of randomly get ideas and work on them, or there'll be some days where we'll be hanging out and just start thinking of designs. One time, I had a great idea for a new design and I was so excited about it that I actually called Ricky up and said, "DUDE, we got to do this!" Everything just comes out of the deep dark crevices of our heads. :]

what type of person would be one to like your line?
-Ricky: We try not to specify ourselves into a specific category, basically anyone that likes it. Although we do tend to attract more of the rock scene. All the people that are into metal music, hardcore music, screamo music...etc.
-Robert: Anyone who thinks that the designs look cool and would say, "damn, I really want that shirt." We do have a heavy metal influence though, since we sponsor rock/metal/hardcore bands. Anyone who thinks that our designs look cool should buy em :]

besides the internet, are there any other places where kids can buy your clothing?
-Ricky: As of now, the only other option would be to come up to us in person. Because we don't have a store or anything it makes it difficult for us to spread the word other than the internet.
-Robert: What he said

are there any bands currently sponsored by you? how can other bands become sponsored by CSc?
-Ricky: Yes we do. Right now we have five bands that we sponsor:PURITY, THE GHOST INSIDE, AN AMERICAN SHOOTOUT, AMARNA REIGN, and MOURN NOTHING. right now we're kinda filled on our sponsored bands so were not accepting more. we do however, have lots of bands and companies that we support. We are always looking for more bands and companies to support so BRING IT!
