Top five bands this week.

Due to busy schedules, cold weather, etc, we were not able to make an OddTV episode this week for me to chat about my favorite bands of the week. Instead, I'll just write about them. Click on each band name to be directed to their myspace (their links are also on the side under the 'Top 5 Bands of the Week' header), and please add them and support each one!

Maradona - With the success that bands like Paramore have had, I'm surprised that Maradona has not been put out there more. Each song is easy to sing along to, and just a tad softer than the power-vocals from Hayley Williams (paramore songstress). Needless to say, this is a pop punk band that deserves a lot more credit than they have been given.
Recommended listening: "Live It Up"

Lady GaGa - Pop and dance music in sometimes tend to take a backseat in my selections when it comes to my music tastes. Occasionally there is someone to coax me out of my indie rock and hip hop shell (or whatever genre) of the week, and this week: it was Lady GaGa. Admittedly, there is one song of hers that plays constantly on my itunes, and if you can't dance to her music, you either have zero sense of rhythm, no legs, or you're dead.
Recommended listening: "Just Dance"

The Avengers - I've been in a huge hip hop mood lately, and The Avengers brings it, but not to the point where it's in your face. The lyrics seem to follow the general rap topics: drugs, girls. It's pretty mellow though, and these dudes have nice flow. There are also a few melodies sung throughout the songs that are just as good as the rest of it.
Recommended listening: "It's True"

The Record Kid - This is one of those bands that I just like to listen and sing to. Their lyrics are catchy and clever, also sort of uplifting in a way. There is a good mix of keys into the songs, and I think I might be in love with the vocalist, Jeffrey's singing voice.

Recommended listening: "Starting Over Fresh"

The Red Airplanes - I'm not huge into religion, but I do love when a band who is heavily influenced by God, can write songs about their love of him without it becoming a preaching session. Which is mainly why I like this band. The lyrics are beautiful, as well as the vocals and music to back it all up.

Recommended listening: "Need You Tonight"

There's this weeks top five. Like I said, please check them all out, they are VERY deserving of all the attention they can get. Look forward to more OddTV episodes in the near future, and I hope you all like the little makeover I gave the page!

If you're still in a hip hop mood, check out Still Undecided. I saw them last year in Grand Rapids and they rocked my fucking brain with their amazingly topical lyrics. I'd recommend them to anyone.
