So I have a livejournal, and every day I think, they post these little things to help break through writers block and get the thoughts flowing. The one the other day was to make a list of albums that would be on your Top 10 of All Time. Of course, this fluctuates, but currently, these are my top ten, and I may be forgetting some.
Which I'll probably remember as soon as I push the button that says "PUBLISH POST." And this is in no particular order.
1. There Is A Moth In Your Chest - Mason Proper Okay, so I may or may not just love this album because these guys somehow came out of my town. Honestly though, they are one of my favorite bands, and they create some of the best and most entertaining music to listen to. On this album especially. I would be surprised if you listen to this and don't find yourself moving in someway. And the lyrics are sofuckingclever, oh my god.
2. Everything In Transit - Jack's Mannequin I got this album for Christmas from my biology partner at the time and good friend. I was a fan of Something Corporate for quite a while, and then this album pretty much just rocked my life. It also became kind of my feel-good album a year later when I got sick, purely because I knew he had gone through similar things and it made it that much easier. LOVE this album with all my heart.
3. I'm Like A Virgin Losing A Child - Manchester Orchestra I'm not sure what it is about this album. I don't love the entire thing to death, but the first three songs or so are more than enough reason to put this album on my list. Those three songs are SO good I could listen to them over and over again. I want to see a movie made to those three songs. (Wolves At Night, Now That Your Home, The Neighborhood Is Bleeding)
4. The Dust of Retreat - Margot and the Nuclear So & So's Let me just tell you that I have not listened to an album and loved it for as long as I love listened to The Dust of Retreat and loved it. In fact, I don't even know why this one isn't my number one. Everything is perfect. The blend and range of instruments. The mix of Richard's voice with soft female backing. The lyrics. I challenge anyone to find me a better album. It's been about a year now and I still haven't found one to top it.
5. Almost Here - The Academy Is... There will always be a part of me that loves William Beckett's voice. There's something so different yet familiar about it, and I can't get over it. If you couldn't tell by now, I'm a sucker for albums with great lyrics, and this just so happens to be one of them. And they're delivered so smoothly. A favorite of mine since like..seventh grade.
6. Put Your Ghost To Rest - Kevin Devine Another album with good lyrics. My sister and I used to listen to "Just Stay" every single day on our way to school, and I guess I kind of always think of that. Winter in general. It's a good winter album. I listened to it on a lot of fall/winter rainy/snowy days last year. Very relaxing.
7. I Am The Movie - Motion City Soundtrack Now I guess I'm moving into albums that make me feel nostalgic or whatever. In seventh grade (I think), my best friend at the time's brother made her a huge stack of CD's to listen to and 'widen' her music horizons. This was one of them. It became the soundtrack to our summer, and we would skateboard in her driveway to it, and drive around listening to it with volume on high.
8. Armchair Apocrypha - Andrew Bird This album has everything I like in an album on it. It's not exactly slow music, but it's not loud nor is it incredibly fast paced. It gives me just enough to take in all the amazing sounds going on in it. Some of the lyrics give me chills, and his voice is kind of odd to me, but it's beautiful anyways.
9. Tell All Your Friends - Taking Back Sunday TAYF was another CD that made it into the stack from my friend's brother. I just love every song on this CD. Each song manages to paint pictures for me. Some better than others, but pictures nonetheless.
10. Friendly Fire - Sean Lennon Everytime I listen to this album, I can't help but think of his dad. Their voices have similar qualities, except Sean always sounds much sadder to me. The lyrics are kind of odd, but it's still nice to listen to.
