R.I.P TRL

So last night was the final episode of Total Request Live. I guess I feel compelled to blog about it, since this is mostly a music blog - and no one can deny that TRL was a huge staple to music and popular culture and MTV in general. Because we all know now that with TRL, MTV should look into a name change. RTV, perhaps? Ahem. Reality Television.

Anyways, as a last episode, I think they did it all right. They had just about every host the show has ever had. Carson Daly, Damien Fahey, LaLa, Quduus, Vanessa Manillo, Hilarie Burton, Susie, Jessie Camp, etc.

Throughout the show, they played some of the most iconic videos that were ever on the show. Of course, number one being ...Baby One More Time by Britney Spears. Even though the pop singer (who I must say is making a pretty powerful comeback) was not present. Eminem was also somewhere in the list (number 2, I believe) and I don't really remember any of the other ones. Oops!

There was a lot of impressive performances. Beyonce opened up the show. Ludacris did some new stuff that I don't think I had heard (then again I don't listen to him..) and 'Stand Up,' Nelly did 'Hot in Herre,' and Snoop Dogg laid down 'Drop It Like It's Hot.' Fall Out Boy then played their new song 'I Don't Care' and old hit 'Dance, Dance.' Pete was not able to make it (we all know why!), so The Academy Is... bassist Adam Siska filled in for him.

But the best performance of the night probably has to go to Backstreet Boys. Of course. As a kid who grew up listening to 90's pop, I fangirled over them ten years ago, and I fangirl over them now. Plus, they played 'I Want It That Way.' Beautiful. They have gotten so old though, I had to laugh.

Let's see...they got Christina Aguilera and Travis Barker for interviews via Satellite. Eminem and Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz on the phone.

P.Diddy showed up for the three hundredth time, and even got a little teary eyed. Seeing P.Diddy cry is just about as close to seeing Chuck Norris drop a tear or two. Har har.

I don't really know what else to say about the finale of TRL, but it is weird that it's gone. I remember being like, eight years old and watching it while my dad was sleeping because I wasn't allowed. It introduced me to a lot of bands, and through those bands, I found a lot of the bands that I listen to today.

MTV, you better be lighting a fire under your ass to get some more music related TV. I mean, we've been dealing with this for years...but now this is just unacceptable.

ODD TV goes worldwide, y/y? ;)

We've got some good interviews coming up, along with a review from a really great band. Hopefully another ODD TV video will be up by the end of the week.

Now where will we go for 15-second clips of music videos with a picture-in-picture box of a screaming teenage girl?
