In Review: District 9

District 9 was in my category of “to see, or not to see?” However, my brother was IN LOVE with this movie after the first time he saw the preview. So, we decided to go to that last weekend. After seeing this movie, I’m putting it in my “TO SEE AGAIN” category.

If you want to save yourself the pain of reading this, I’m going to say it was like Cloverfield and 28 Days Later had a baby.

The movie in some parts, is shot in a style of a first-person view, hand held camera view. After a while though, you get to see more special effects and so the whole hand-held camera thing doesn’t quite work.

It takes place in Johannesburg, South Africa and focuses on a man who is about to lead a team who evicts the aliens living in District 9 to another location where human and alien interaction won’t be a problem. On the other hand, the aliens aren’t too thrilled with this idea and of course react with violence and anger towards the MNU (Multi-Nations Union).

The man who is leading the group finds illegal contraband belonging to the aliens and confiscates it. However, his exposure to the container leads to him becoming one of the aliens. From there on, it’s pretty much this huge chase to catch this guy because he’s able to control the alien technology. To the government, this is the six-million dollar man due to his accidental exposure and newfound abilities.

Now, I’m not going to tell you how the movie ends because that would just be spoiling things. Go see this one for yourself if you want to find out what happens to him. It’s by far one of the best movies of the summer and if you’re going to spend $10 on a movie, go see this one.

The movie was like a joke at first but the ending was awesome. It was also a bit disturbing to see all the blood and carnage, I don't think I can see it again for the second time.
