The trailers alone for The Strangers freaked me out. I don't know if it was the guy who has the creepy voice who utters a sentence that doesn't make any sense, or if it was the masks in general. Either way, when it came out on Friday, I decided that I had to see it. Because if a commercial can freak me out, the movie has to be pretty damn good.
The Strangers follows the pretty typical horror movie plot. Guy and girl (Liv Tyler!) are in an argument that dashes their hopes of a romantic weekend. Creepy girl shows up (who just happens to be Gemma Ward. How funny that she's a super model and you hardly even see her face.) Creepy girl asks for someone who doesn't live there. Girl (or maybe not) keeps knocking.
Then the horror starts happening. If you're looking for a good horror movie with an awesome plot that will make you think a little bit, this isn't the movie for you. However, if you want a ton of good scares, perfect for making your muscles sore and giving your vocal chords a work out (mondo-screaming opportunites), then you may just like this movie.
Worth the $7+ for a movie ticket? Probably, because those scares would not be as good on a smaller screen.
